Two measurements decide the fit

The seat width at its widest point, and the backrest height from the seat to the top of the frame. Those two numbers are on every listing. A stretch knit absorbs an inch either way; a structured cut with sewn panels does not, so measure before ordering rather than after.

Armless chairs, and chairs with arms

Almost everything here is cut for armless dining chairs, which is what most dining sets use. A cover made for an armless chair will not go over armrests — it is not a matter of stretching harder. Where a cover does fit a chair with arms, the listing says so explicitly.

Stretch or structured

Stretch knit gives in both directions and is the safer choice for rounded or barrel-back frames, where a cut cover will gape at the corners. Structured covers with sewn panels look sharper on square frames and hold their shape through a meal, but they need the measurements to be right.

Chairs that sit under a dinner table

If the chairs are used daily by children, the coated wipe-clean fabrics are worth the difference: a spill sits on the surface long enough to be wiped off instead of soaking through to the seat pad. Everything else here is cold machine washable, and washing six covers together is the point of buying them in the first place.
